Interaction of insulin with colloidal ZnS quantum dots functionalized by various surface capping agents

Abstract: Interaction of quantum dots (QDs) and proteins strongly influenced by the surface characteristics of the QDs at the protein-QD interface. For a precise control of these surface-related interactions, it is necessary to improve our understanding in this field. In this regard, in the present work, the interaction between the insulin and differently functionalized ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were studied. The ZnS QDs were functionalized with various functional groups of hydroxyl (OH), carboxyl (COOH), amine (NH), and a… Show more

“…The values of Δ H ° and Δ S ° were calculated using the van’t Hoff equation where R and T are the gas constant and the absolute temperature, respectively. The values of Δ H ° and Δ S ° were obtained from the slope and intercept of the plotting log K b versus 1/ T curve, respectively (Figure ) (Table ).…”

“…FTIR spectra of the ZnS quantum dots (Figure 2) confirm the interactions of the octadecylamine-capping agent with ZnS. The C-C stretching vibrations of the capping agent appeared at 2853 cm −1 and 2907 cm −1 , while the bands at 1367 cm −1 and 1466 cm −1 are attributed to C-H stretching vibrational modes [39]. ZnS stretching vibrations were observed at 1636 cm −1 and 1089 cm −1 [40][41][42], while the N-H absorption band was observed at 3330 cm −1 , which confirms octadecylamine (ODA) as a capping agent on the surface of the ZnS quantum dots.…”

“…Similarly, Pradhan et al have shown that iron oxide nanoparticles conjugated with glutamine- and proline-based osmolytes inhibit protein aggregation [24]. Hosseinzadeh et al showed that the interaction of quantum dots (QDs) and proteins strongly influenced the surface characteristics of the QDs at the protein-QD interface [25]. A recent review describes the biosensing ability of natural receptor-conjugated conducting nanomaterials [26].…”
