V irtual care, commonly defined as medical care delivered at a distance by means of technology, has existed since the 1970s. 1 Despite substantial interest and investment in virtual care by both the federal and provincial governments, 2-4 widespread adoption was modest. 5,6 Research suggested that barriers to virtual care uptake in Ontario before the pandemic included limited physician reimbursement and government mandates that virtual visits use an approved video platform. 7 As the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic evolved, payers around the globe acted with unprecedented speed by altering fee schedules to encourage virtual visits to reduce the risk of viral transmission, protect patients with chronic diseases who need ongoing medical attention and conserve personal protective equipment. 8 In Ontario, during the first wave of the pandemic, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan quickly approved new temporary billing codes that allowed any type of technology, including telephone calls and commercial videoconferencing software (e.g., Skype, Zoom), to be used for virtual care. These temporary billing codes, as well as the preexisting video visit codes, are reimbursed at the same amount as in-person visits. It has been widely reported that virtual care adoption has accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, but published data are limited. Os avanços tecnológicos trouxeram uma nova realidade de trabalho e assistência oferecida pelos profissionais de saúde. A utilização das tecnologias para prover assistência, promoção e educação em saúde é também denominada como saúde digital, e engloba, dentre outros, a telemedicina, inerente especificamente à prática da medicina a distância. A telemedicina vem sido desenvolvida há muitas décadas e com diversas experiências nas mais diversas culturas e realidades socioeconômicas, atuando como ferramenta de teleassistência, teleconsulta, telexpertise, monitoramento remoto, pesquisas multicêntricas e atividades educacionais. Este artigo objetiva apresentar uma revisão crítica acerca do uso da telemedicina medicina no Brasil. O ponto alto das discussões acerca do tema refere-se à regulamentação, principalmente, da prática de teleconsultas, atividade utilizada em vários países e liberada no Brasil durante a pandemia de COVID-19. A literatura apresenta diversas experiências e oportunidades do uso da telemedicina, tais quais: aumento do acesso a serviços de saúde, redução de deslocamentos de pacientes, redução de custos e aproximação de especialistas à população de regiões remotas. Porém, uma recente tentativa de regulamentação do Conselho Federal de Medicina levantou uma série de discussões entre especialistas e associações médicas, evidenciando ameaças como: aumento da possibilidade de diagnósticos equivocados, utilização em demasia, insegurança de dados e informações privadas, e possível vetor de desemprego de profissionais médicos. A liberação do uso da telemedicina durante a pandemia evidenciou uma oportunidade para os profissionais e, para a população brasileira experenciar essa nova modalidade de prestação de serviço médico, que certamente contribuirá para discussões futuras e possível regulamentação do tema.

This special issue is ambitious in that it calls for strategic transformation in research on Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and related dementias, including innovation in both research design and value delivery, through lifestyle interventions that implicitly relate to a much broader range of comorbidities and diseases of aging. One response to this challenge is to venture beyond the boundaries of research that supports the healthcare industry. Toward this end, we introduce opportunities for research translation and knowledge transfer from NASA to the healthcare industry. Our intent is to show how NASA's approach to research can guide innovation for a smart medical home, most notably for AD and other diseases of aging. The article is organized in four major sections: (a) aggregating fragmented research communities; (b) lifestyle interventions in the medical home; (c) multiscale computational modeling and analysis; and (d) lifespan approach to precision brain health. We provide novel motivations and transformative paths to a diversity of specific lines of research, across communities, that would be difficult to discover in common methods of networking within research communities and even through sophisticated bibliographic methods.
