Intercluster Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network in Dense Environment

Abstract: Wireless sensor networks have grown rapidly with the innovation in Information Technology. Sensor nodes are distributed and deployed over the area for gathering requisite information. Sensor nodes possess a negative characteristic of limited energy which pulls back the network from exploiting its peak capabilities. Hence, it is necessary to gather and transfer the information in an optimized way which reduces the energy dissipation. Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is being widely used in optimizing the network r… Show more

“…This approach can also reduce the hotspot problem where sensor nodes near the destination node will drastically drain their energy as compared to the other sensor nodes further away [10], [24]. This problem happens because sensor nodes near the destination node consume more energy to forward packets on behalf of the other sensor nodes located far away from the destination node.…”

“…Hoang, D. C. et al [3] implemented an energy-efficient wireless sensor network clustering protocol based on a harmonious search algorithm in real time. Kim, J. Y. et al [4] studied the cluster ant colony optimization algorithm for wireless sensor networks in dense environments. If the data collected by the sensor nodes cannot be passed to Sink effectively and quickly, it will affect the normal work, stability and reliability of the network.…”
