Interdisciplinary guided dentistry, digital quality control, and the “copy‐paste” concepts

Abstract: Objective The aim of this report is to present an interdisciplinary approach with novel concepts to virtually plan and achieve esthetics and function. Clinical Considerations Despite the advancements in the digital workflow applied to restorative dentistry, the final outcomes are commonly not similar to initial planning. To overcome this major limitation, three concepts are proposed: guided dentistry, digital quality control and “copy‐paste” dentistry. Guided dentistry consists of simulations in 3D software an… Show more

“…The use of a digitally designed double guide for crown lengthening has been successfully reported elsewhere. 1,[16][17][18][19][20][21] However, further studies should evaluate the accuracy of surgical guides for crown lengthening procedures and the influence of several factors such as scanner protocol and systems, guide errors or misfits, different resins, 3D printers, and software systems. 17,18 In addition, clinical trials are needed to validate and confirm the reliability and repeatability of this technique.…”

“…In order to incorporate CAD/CAM technology in routine dental practice, the operator must be trained well in understanding and utilizing the digital workflow 14,15 . In order to fulfil the demand of current and future dentistry, undergraduate students need to be trained in CAD/CAM technology as a part of their undergraduate curriculum 16,17 …”

“…14,15 In order to fulfil the demand of current and future dentistry, undergraduate students need to be trained in CAD/CAM technology as a part of their undergraduate curriculum. 16,17 A study conducted by Zimmermann M, et al (2019) implemented CAD/CAM teaching in 4th-year clinical student following Miller's pyramid principle. The outcome of that study indicates that the CAD/CAM technology was highly greeted by the participants and the participants tended to favour this technology in their clinical application.…”
