Interface Data Modeling to Detect and Diagnose Intersystem Faults for Designing and Integrating System of Systems

Abstract: In system of systems engineering, system integrators are in charge of compatible and reliable interfaces between subsystems. This study explains a systematic solution to identify and diagnose interface faults during designing and integrating systems of systems. Because the systems targeted in this study are real underwater vessels, we first have anatomized 188 interface data transferred between 22 subsystems of them. Based on this, two interface data models are proposed, which include data sets regarding messa… Show more

“…Acombat system, as a type of system-of-systems (SoS), contains computational subsystems to perform a wide range of military functions. In an underwater vessel, for example, an inertial navigation system (INS) enhances the computational accuracy of its orientation and velocity based on data from other subsystems such as electromagnetic log and global position subsystems [1]. For effective development of a combat system, it should be built and integrated using the V process, which is a standardized framework to develop complex systems such as combat systems [2].…”

“…As the subsystems operate separately, they have multiple console panels to identify and control their operations. Next, the subsystems usually have different data formats and communication protocols [9]. To communicate between the subsystems normally, NCS requires data integration systems (DISs) to convert their input/output (I/O) data into interpretable forms.…”

“…For example, through the IoT sensors, realtime data such as various facilities, workers, transportation equipment, and factory environment can be obtained [5,6]. It enables real-time fault detection and diagnosis [7][8][9]. Also, the acquired big data can be used to analyze and predict shop floor through artificial intelligence and machine-learning techniques [10].…”
