Interfacing a Topological Qubit with a Spin Qubit in a Hybrid Quantum System

Abstract: We present and analyze a hybrid quantum system that interfaces a Majorana-hosted semiconductor nanowire with a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center via a magnetized torsional cantilever. We show that, the torsional mode of the mechanical resonator can strongly couple to the Majorana qubit and the spin qubit simultaneously, which allows to interface them for quantum state conversion through a dark state protocol. This work provides a promising interface between the topological qubit and the conventional spin qub… Show more

“…Color centers in diamond, such as germanium-vacancy (GeV) [37], nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center [38][39][40][41][42] and silicon-vacancy (SiV) center [43][44][45][46], play an important role in quantum science and technology [47][48][49][50][51]. Due to the high controllability and long coherence time [52][53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60], NV centers stand out among all kinds of solid-state systems.…”

“…For the NV center, the spin-triplet S = 1 ground states {|0 , |±1 } are the eigenstates of the spin operator Ŝz , with Ŝz |i = i|i and i = 0, ±1. In the presence of the external magnetic field B z oriented along the NV symmetry axis [31,32,34,78,79], the degeneracy of the states |±1 are split via the Zeeman effect. Taking |0 as the energy reference, the Hamiltonian of the NV center can be expressed as…”

“…where γ eff = α 2 γ m and κ eff = κ + β 2 γ m are the effective dacay rates, respectively. Here, the original dissipation rates are chosen as γ s /2π ∼ 1 kHz [79], γ m /2π ∼ 1 MHz [83] and κ/2π ∼ 6 kHz [2]. And we take the dimensionless parameters as α ∼ β ∼ 0.1 for the condition of eliminating the Kittel mode.…”

“…Topological phases of matter have attracted great interests and developed potential applications in quantum physics [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. In particular, topological insulators possess topologically protected surface or edge states, robust to local disorders.…”
