Interleaved boost converter for global maximum power extraction from the photovoltaic system under partial shading

Abstract: Partial shading (PS) condition has a negative effect on the shaded photovoltaic (PV) modules/arrays itself. In addition, it reduces the output power generated considerably. The PV system configuration represents one of the effective solutions to alleviate the PS effects and extract the global maximum power (GMP) available from the partially shaded PV (PSPV) system. This study introduces a detailed performance analysis and comparisons of four proposed PV system configurations [module integrated converter (MIC),… Show more

“…After that, the maximum power value is selected and its corresponding optimal voltage (V MPP ). The optimal duty cycle was calculated to be used during the DRNN training and testing process based on Equation (7). During the training stage of the DRNN model, 70% of the collected dataset is used for training, and 30% is used for testing.…”

“…Therefore, the selection of the most suitable technique, to track the unique peak under uniform conditions or to track the global peak under partial shading conditions (PSCs), is compulsory and is considered a hot research area. This will contribute in improving the PV system performance, efficiency, power quality, and reliability …”

“…The proposed system configuration consists of PV arrays connected to a DC-DC converter and three-phase PWM inverter. Boost converter is widely usedwith the MPPT of PV systems and it can be used in one branch or in interleaved configuration (Farh et al, 2018b, 2019). The boost converter is controlled by PSO as an MPPT technique, as illustrated in Figure 1.…”

“…Modules are often subject to different irradiance levels, either because of shadowing due to the complex landscapes in cities, or different orientations. To optimise energy production under these conditions, many authors have proposed to implement distributed MPPT (DMPPT) by dividing the PV array into sub-sections [27,28]. In this respect, module-level DMPPT is becoming attractive, and it can be enabled thanks to the employment of microinverters [29,30] or module-integrated dc-dc converters [31][32][33].…”
