Interlocutory logic

Abstract: After exhibiting the historical and epistemic context of the discovery of the interaction order, the authors develop a global theory of the cognitive-affective-social organization of talk-in-interaction: «Interlocutory Logic». On the basis of insights provided by the pragmatics of natural languages and the theory and methods of contemporary logic, this theory deals with elementary illocutionary acts and higher-order units (turns, exchanges) of conversation with the help of methods of natural deduction and dial… Show more

“…The inter-individual comparison of group members’ activity level was taken as a measure of group flow, with inter-individually synchronous activity indicating group flow. Galimberti et al [42] proposed two different measures of group flow from an external perspective for future investigations: firstly, on an interpersonal level, the communicative interactions between group members based on interlocutory logic [59]; secondly, on a processual and structural level of in-group collaboration, Social Network Analysis (SNA; [56, 57]). The use of SNA was also proposed by Gaggioli and colleagues [39].…”

“…Of course, phenomenology and dialogism encompass many other assumptions, which have to be bracketed here. As for dialogism, see Linell (2009). phenomenon with its own properties and logic (Trognon and Batt 2010). Goffman (1983) talks about 'the interaction order' (Rawls 1987: 'interaction order sui generis').…”

“…These activities also presuppose forms of intersubjectivity, and of course language. Vygotsky (1978) describes internal dialogue as a further and later development of external interaction. He also talks about forms of intersubjectivity in different stages and at different levels of (ontogenetic, socio-historical, micro-interactional) development/genesis.…”

“…Subsequently, to reconstruct the two direct addresses' structure from a conversational perspective, we will refer to the interlocutory logic theory (Trognon and Batt, 2010). This approach is a "global theory of the cognitive-affective-social organization of talk-in-interaction" (Trognon and Batt, 2010, p. 19), aiming to describe interlocutory events formally and to build a grammar of the types of dialogue in which we engage and their felicity conditions.…”

“…The present study aims to consider the direct address as a research object of the social psychology of communication, increasing our understanding of the direct address by going beyond the only analysis of its dramaturgical function. The direct address will be examined by adopting an integrated approach based on argumentative (van Eemeren and Grootendorst, 1992;van Eemeren, 2010) and conversational (Trognon and Batt, 2010) tools to highlight its less known polydimensional structure, i.e., diegetic and extra-diegetic dimensions and their interactions, and psychosocial functions, i.e., connecting the characters among each other within the show as well as with the audience. This objective will be achieved by analyzing the direct addresses' use in the American TV series House of Cards (2013Cards ( -2018.…”
