Intermammary breast cancer: A rare case of cancer with origin of breast cells in an unusual location

Abstract: The most common type of cancer among the female population is breast cancer. The most common site for the occurrence of breast cancer is the upper outer quadrant; the upper inner quadrant is the second site, and both the lower outer and the lower inner quadrants are in the third place. This problem is rarely seen in the central portion. Intermammary metastasis due to breast cancer is an infrequent finding. “…Breast cancer, the foremost cause of female mortality globally, ranking fifth in 2020 according to WHO GLOBOCAN, underscores the urgency for advancing precise prognostic methods to enhance survival rates. 1 , 3 , 5 Multiple studies have been done up to now and approve that some clinicopathological variables can be helpful for early diagnosing or determining the probability of patients’ survival rate, which can be very effective in determining treatment methods or policies and plans. 4 - 8 …”

“…17 Different imaging methods exist to diagnose breast tumors, such as ultrasonography, mammography, MRI, and PET scans. 2 The first step is using ultrasonography and mammography, and MRI and PET scans, if available, could improve the quality and accuracy of the diagnosis. 8 Although using these methods is not sufficient to diagnose metaplastic breast carcinoma because of the similarity of shape features to other breast tumors, it could be helpful to determine the approximate size and location of the tumor or reveal the distance of metastasis.…”

“…Breast cancer is the most common cancer among the female population that can threaten their lives and is increasing worldwide. 1 , 2 Metaplastic Breast Cancer (MBC) is a rare and aggressive type of breast cancer that includes 0.2–5 % of all breast cancers. 3 This type of tumor heterogeneity, rarity, and lack of standard therapeutic approach makes MBC aggressive and a poorer prognostic than other types of breast cancer.…”
