An occupation, which is necessary to earn a good living, is a collection of activities based on knowledge and skills that are formed by a certain education and defined by a society. The choice of profession is not just about what an individual is doing, but also about what kind of life he/she is going to live. In this context, we tried to determine the factors that are effective in the choice of the occupation of the individuals. For this purpose firstly, the related literature was examined with the aim of investigating the factors that are effective in choosing an occupation and then, a survey was conducted on 481 individuals with different demographic factors working in Istanbul. As a result of the research, five factors affecting the occupation choice of the individuals were reached. These factors are; professional knowledge and skills, high yield and liability expectations, status expectation, family and educational environment, occupational structural characteristics. It was determined that the choice of profession varies according to sex, marital status, age groups, working status and educational status. The results of the research are important in order to summarize what factors affect the individuals choice of occupation in our country.
