Internal Suture Technique for Improving Projection and Stability in Secondary Gluteoplasty

Abstract: The most common indication for primary gluteoplasty is the aesthetic correction of gluteal hypoplasia; secondary gluteoplasty is directed toward asymmetry from misplaced implants, trauma or infection of the implant, and treatment of congenital and acquired deformities. In this study, the authors describe a new suture maneuver designed to improve the result in secondary gluteoplasties. To reduce the empty pocket spaces and guarantee the stability of the new (smaller) implants, anchoring circular interlocking su… Show more

“…Badin and Vieira have described a surgical technique for the placement of high-cohesive round silicone implants using video assistance [10]. Moreover, Jaimovich et al [11] have described anchoring sutures, and Sozer et al have described the use of musculocutaneous flap to increase the buttock in the middle portion, and to decrease fat necrosis [12].…”

“…Gluteal bioplasty is one of the techniques that has been used. With this procedure it is possible to correct asymmetry of lost implants, to treat acquired or congenital deformities, traumas or prosthesis infections, and to fill in some irregularity caused by the prosthesis itself [9]. A polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) filler is used because it is a permanent product, stimulates collagen, and improves skin quality.…”

“…Other authors have shown good results with the subfascial technique, 4,8 which is a technique with which we have no experience. The discussion should continue, and new approaches for uncommon situations should be published, such as that by Jaimovich et al, 9 who proposed the internal suture technique. Although an autologous tissue, fat injection is not as predictable as implants, and studies reporting long-term results are needed to evaluate its behavior over the years.…”
