International safety assessment of pesticides: Dithiocarbamate pesticides, ETU, and PTU—A review and update

Abstract: For the last 30 years the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) has carried out toxicological evaluations and safety assessments of dithiocarbamate pesticides, continuously adjusting previous appraisals in the light of new data and advances in the understanding of the principles and mechanisms of toxic action of these compounds. The historical narrative of the evaluative process is followed by an account of the present international safety assessment status of the dithiocarbamate pesticides so far… Show more

DTCs are also used clinically for the treatment of chronic alcoholism and as anticancer and antitoxic drug agents [1][2][3][4] . Ferbam [Fe(III) tris{dimethyldithiocarbamate}], [{(CH 3 ) 2 NCS 2 } 3 Fe] is an agricultural dithiocarbamate fungicide used on a wide variety of plant fungi and diseases.…”

“…Further intensive investigation of the category of ethylene bisdithiocarbamate base pesticides is urgently needed. However, there are not many schemes, which are sensitive enough to meet the requirement of Joint FAO/WHO Meeting of Pesticide Residues (JMPRs) for the detection of ethylene bisdithiocarbamate [4].…”
