“…During our discussion, we reviewed a variety of teaching and assessment techniques that offer promise, including team-based learning (Ruget and Mulcare 2010), course preparation assignments (Rodgers and Ewell 2010), tickets into class (Wolfe 2010), in-class and out-of-class writing assignments (Gentry 2010), and creative project assignments (Hipscher 2010). We also discussed how the content of our discipline can be presented in new, more accessible ways, such as teaching politics “from the everyday” perspective (Mosser 2010), integrating students into learning communities, and using student input to select special topics and examples in class time and assignments (McClellan, Dursun-Ozkanca, and Selcher 2010). Further, the presence of students of different levels of motivation in our classes allows for teacher scholars to think outside the old assignment and find new opportunities for student work.…”
