The digital transformation of producer services contributes to the development of manufacturing technology innovation through an intermediary role, providing an important policy basis for the effective implementation of China’s innovation-driven development strategy and digital transformation. In this study, we selected panel data collected from 30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China from 2013 to 2020 and applied a spatial Durbin model that included mediating effects to examine the mediating transmission paths of the effect of the digital transformation of producer services on manufacturing technology innovation. Our results showed that: (i) The digital transformation of producer services positively affects local manufacturing technology innovation and generates positive spatial spillover effects on neighboring regions. (ii) The digital transformation of producer services affects manufacturing technology innovation through three paths, including industrial productivity, knowledge stock, and the market environment. The direct effect of industrial productivity is the largest, followed by the market environment and knowledge stock, while the spillover effect of knowledge stock is the largest, followed by market environment and industrial productivity. (iii) There is regional heterogeneity in the mediating effect of the digital transformation of producer services, with the direct effect of industrial productivity being the largest in the east and the spillover effect of the market environment being the largest in the central region.

Currently, countries worldwide are embracing digital strategies, enabling enterprises to utilize digital technology, digital supply chains, blockchain, and additional digital measures to increase their competitiveness. This paper analyzed the correlation between the digital transformation of manufacturing export enterprises and their business and export performance, focusing on China’s manufacturing export enterprises through empirical analysis. The study investigated the influence of digital transformation on enterprise performance. Using the Resource Based View theory and Trade theory, hypotheses were proposed and regression models were developed to analyze a sample of 1007 enterprises listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock markets from 2012 to 2019. The study conducted regression analysis, intermediate effect test, robustness test, stage lag, and heterogeneity analysis. The study found that (1) Manufacturing export enterprises listed in the stock market implemented digital transformation, leading to a significant positive impact on their overall performance. (2) Digital transformation led to cost reduction, improved R&D intensity, and enhanced human resources, among other benefits for enterprise performance. (3) According to the fractal analysis, non-state-owned enterprises exhibited more favorable effects on enterprise performance, and the digital transformation of manufacturing export companies in developed regions had a more significant impact on their performance. Finally, the study’s empirical results yielded pertinent proposals for digital transformation.

In the digital economy, the relationship between digital transformation and a company's total factor productivity has profound implications for high-quality business development. Heavy polluters are given more environmental responsibility because of their high pollution and emission characteristics. This paper analyses the theoretical framework for the impact of digital transformation on the total factor productivity of heavily polluting firms. Using a sample of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share heavy polluters from 2010 to 2020, we explore how the digital transformation of heavy polluters affects the total factor productivity of firms. The study found that the digital transformation of heavily polluting companies can effectively improve total factor productivity, internally by increasing their level of green technology innovation and externally by increasing their willingness and capacity for corporate social responsibility. At the same time, digital transformation can improve total factor productivity by reducing cost stickiness, revealing the "black box" in which digital transformation affects the total factor productivity of an enterprise. It was further found that the digital transformation of companies with high levels of environmental investment, large enterprises, those in non-manufacturing industries, and heavy polluters of a state-owned nature had a more significant impact on total factor productivity. The findings of the study provide empirical evidence for the digital transformation of heavily polluting companies to improve productivity and the green transformation of the economy for companies under the low carbon goal.
