Interrater Reliability and Time Measurement Validity of Speed–Agility Field Tests in Adolescents

Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the interrater reliability (trained vs. untrained raters) and criterion-related validity (manual vs. automatic timing) of the 4 × 10-m shuttle run and 30-m running speed tests (times measured). The study comprised 85 adolescents (38 girls) aged 13.0-16.9 years from the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence study. The time required to complete the 4 × 10-m shuttle run and 30-m running tests was simultaneously measured (a) manually with a stopwatch by both t… Show more

“…The testing was stopped when a height trial was not successfully completed with both feet. The total score was given by the sum of points at all the heights; (b) shuttle run (SHR) 17 -running at maximal speed to a line placed 10 m apart, picking up a block of wood, running back and placing it on or beyond the starting line. Then running back to retrieve the second block and carry it back across the finish line.…”

“…Speed-agility was assessed with the 4310-meter shuttlerun test. 19 These physical fitness tests have proved in other studies to be valid and reliable in young people. 12,[20][21][22] Physical Examination, Anthropometrics, and Body Composition…”

“…"Power" is actually the application of an optimum amount of force (not maximal) and an optimal speed in order to perform an exercise [173]. The present search highlighted 2 main adopted tests for the assessment of speed, agility and coordination: the 4×10 mSRT with 9 records found [28,31,49,122,124,142,[197][198][199] and the 10×5 m sprint test with 4 records found [160,185,200,201] (Table 4). (Table 7).…”
