Abstract:SUMMARYThe limited bandwidth of high-speed transmitter and receiver hardware gives rise to intersymbol interference (ISI) in digital communication systems. The influence of such ISI is investigated in a low-complexity fibreoptical setting, using differential quaternary phase-shift keying (DQPSK) modulation. The ISI is approximated by a memoryless, stochastic model, for use in applications where neither equalisation nor sequence detection can be afforded. The channel capacity of this model is calculated and sho… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
