“…All of these women killed men. Consequently, our results seem to support earlier research indicating that adult women homicide perpetrators most often kill across gender lines (Goetting, 1987(Goetting, , 1988a(Goetting, , 1988bMann, 1993Mann, , 1996Rodriguez & Henderson, 1995;Stout, 1991;Wilbanks, 1983;Wolfgang, 1958). In fact, 37.9% (11 out of 29) of the African American women in our study killed a spouse, boyfriend, or man with whom they were living, whereas 23.1% (3 out of 13) of the White women in our study killed their spouse or former spouse.…”

“…Studies have found differences between male‐perpetrated homicide and female‐perpetrated homicide. Homicides committed by female offenders, on the one hand, are often committed against an intimate partner , or a child , often include stabbing or shooting as a cause of death , and more often involve nonwhite offenders . Homicides committed by men, on the other hand, tend to be directed toward other men and are often committed against friends or acquaintances .…”

“…studies have linked early cohabitation to domestic violence (Moffitt & Caspi, 1999) and intimate homicide (Rodriguez & Henderson, 1993). Mothers seemed to take the brunt of their daughters' blame for childhood abuse and violence.…”
