Intra-domain topology manager for publish-subscribe networks

Abstract: In this work we analyze the performance of publishsubscribe based intra domain topology management. We build our model along with PSIRP project [1] implementation prototype, relying entirely on publish-subscribe communication pattern. The exchange of topology information is completely done within publish-subscribe domain. Furthermore, we aim at using different optimization techniques in path computation in order to utilize network resources more efficiently. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents t… Show more

“…The common topology discovery and delivery path formation mechanisms such as OSPF [8] can be easily implemented using publish-subscribe pattern. Furthermore, such implementation can be applied in information-centric architecture as illustrated in our previous work [9]. Therefore, the publish-subscribe paradigm is proven to be flexible enough for supporting not only content retrieval, as already present in many Internet applications, but also more fine-grained functions such as topology discovery.…”

“…Another clean slate ICN architecture is the PUR-SUIT/PSIRP where the content is labeled with randomly looking identifiers (hierarchically organized) and the communication primitives are publish and subscribe. The publications are matched to the subscriptions by the rendezvous function while the actual delivery tree from the publisher(s) to the subscriber(s) is built by the topology management function, which is centralized [27]. However, the routing mechanism being source routing-based suffers from the security problems inherent in source routing mechanisms [28], [29].…”

“…For example, in the PURSUIT architecture [7] the mediation system consists of the topology management function [31], responsible for constructing the delivery tree between publisher(s) and subscriber(s), and the rendezvous function [32], responsible for matching publisher(s), subscriber(s), and content objects. The mediation system can either determine the shortest path or a path based on predefined traffic engineering objectives [13].…”
