“…The host range of agglutinated and adsorbed erythrocytes as well as gradation in sensitivity and optimal temperature for agglutination of tested erythrocytes with the OC 43 strain are similar to the results obtained with the VW572 hemagglutination and hemadsorption experiments. On the other hand, since hemadsorption kept stable after twofold washing of the adsorbing cell sheet, it is thought not to be a "pseudohemadsorption", due to accumulation of newly formed virus particles at the external cell surface, as described by B~CK~ALL et al (4). The occurrence of hemadsorption may be an indication for an altered structure of the cell membrane, as proposed by ME~'GELING et al (22).…”

“…Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses containing a single-stranded genomic RNA of positive polarity. The human coronavirus OC43 [4,10,11,22,28,33] and bovine coronavirus (BCV) [3,14,20,22,28,29] are known to possess both haemagglutinating (HA) and receptor-destroying enzyme (RDE) activities similar to influenza C viruses [6,9,12,21,27]. The diarrhea virus of infant mice (DVIM) is an enterotropic mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) that was originally isolated and characterized by Sato and coworkers [15].…”

“…Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses with singlestranded positive-sense RNA genomes approximately 30 kb [4]. Most viruses in coronavirus family cause diseases in animal, while a few of them; such as HCoV-229E, HCoV OC43, HCoV-NL-63, and SARS-CoV are human pathogens [5][6][7]. Among all human coronaviruses, SARS-CoV is the only one that causes severe clinical consequences.…”
