Intralesional Immunotherapy With Mycobacteriumw Vaccine in Patients With Multiple Cutaneous Warts: Uncontrolled Open Study

Abstract: Drug-induced immunosuppression-while profoundly compromising the cytotoxic response of the adaptive immune system, as in organ transplant recipient (OTR) rejection-apparently impairs the inflammatory environment of SCC to a lesser degree. While tumor defense such as a cytotoxic response of the adaptive immune system seems impaired in SCC in OTRs, a persistent inflammatory feed-forward loop via RAGE may contribute to uncontrolled SCC formation in OTRs. Our results demonstrate that the immunosuppressive agents M… Show more

“…A total of 33 patients (82.5%) had complete resolution, with partial response observed in four patients (10%). Side effects were minimal, with swelling reported in 15% and fevers reported in only 5% of patients (39).…”

“…Mean time to complete response was 9.7 weeks (versus 6.75 weeks in the current study) and distant wart response was noted in 70% (versus 86.3% in current study). [27] The exact mechanism of action of Mw vaccine against viral warts is not known. Experimental evidence suggests that it leads to a strong Th1 cytokine response, especially increased production of IFN-γ, increased T cell and macrophage activation and also increasing CD8+ T cell response.…”

“…The role of immunity is documented by the appearance and persistence of warts in immunosuppressed individuals. 7 Immunotherapy agents that have been tried include cimetidine, imiquimod, interferons, Candida albicans antigens, measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine, tuberculin (purified protein derivative) and intralesional vitamin D. [8][9][10][11][12] Intralesional tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) is effective for the warts over injected as well as distinct site and also prevents reoccurrence. Similarly vitamin D is an effective and a very recent modality used in treatment.…”
