Intramedullary spinal tumor-like lesions

Abstract: The development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has led to an increasingly frequent detection of changes in the spinal cord. The most common intramedullary lesions are: demyelinating; vascular; inflammatory; infectious; and congenital, largely called tumor-like lesions. Spinal cord tumors are relatively rare, as compared with brain tumors. The hardest task is to conclude whether the spinal cord lesion is a tumor or a tumor-like lesion. This review is intended to help evaluate the spinal cord and gives an o… Show more

“…e tibia has an irregular characteristic, which is the body's maximum flat bone, which is a large number of bone tumors, with the proportion of metastasis than being relatively high, and other bone marrow tumors, bone malignant lymphoma [7][8][9]. Clinical data show that the incidence of ilibular disease in the primary malignant bone tumor is about 9.6%, of which the patient is high in chondrosatoma is high, and it is an osteosarcoma, and Juventi meat [10][11][12].…”

“…30 Similar involvement of the dorsal columns is seen in other nutritional deficiencies such as copper and vitamin E. Corticospinal tract involvement is suggestive of hepatic myelopathy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, 31 while anterior horn involvement is more frequently associated with niacin deficiency. 32 Given the imaging overlap of these various entities, differentiation among these myelopathies relies primarily on clinical history and laboratory work-up. Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disorder with multisystem involvement that rarely includes myelopathy.…”

“…33 Postradiation myelopathy is a rare complication that is most commonly seen 6 to 24 months after radiation therapy. 32 The findings include abnormal T2 signal involving the central two-thirds of the cord at levels within the radiation field; fatty marrow changes are often seen at these levels, as well (►Fig. 13).…”

“…Their clinical symptoms, such as local pain, limb weakness, sensory deficit, and sphincter dysfunction, are more closely related to the lesion location rather than its specific pathology (16)(17)(18)(19). As for spinal cord DMGs, their imaging features exhibit substantial overlap with other neoplasms or tumor-like lesions, such as ependymomas (EPNs) and demyelinating disorders (18,20,21), further complicating diagnosis. Yet, few researchers have been dedicated to addressing this diagnostic challenge.…”
