Intramolecular hydrogen bonds involving organic fluorine in the derivatives of hydrazides: an NMR investigation substantiated by DFT based theoretical calculations

Abstract: The rare examples of intramolecular hydrogen bonds (HB) of the type the N-H∙∙∙F-C, detected in a low polarity solvent in the derivatives of hydrazides, by utilizing one and two-dimensional solution state multinuclear NMR techniques, are reported. The observation of through-space couplings, such as, (1h)JFH, and (1h)JFN, provides direct evidence for the existence of intra-molecular HB. Solvent induced perturbations and the variable temperature NMR experiments unambiguously establish the presence of intramolecul… Show more

“…The different derivatives of hydrazides have been synthesized and characterized using one and two dimensional multinuclear NMR experiments, and ESI mass spectrometry. The procedure for synthesis of these molecules and the NMR spectral analysis have been reported [ 134 ]. The NMR experiments reveal the existence of weak intramolecular interactions in all the investigated derivatives of hydrazides [ 134 ].…”

“…A second important application involves the recognition of hydrogen bonds. This may simply involve NH or OH containing molecules that H‐bond to one another or, for salts, the interaction of a suitable cation with polar solvents or anions . In the case of salts where the anion may contain a fluorine atom but no suitable proton, PGSE and DOSY studies reporting both 19 F and 1 H diffusion measurements have become increasingly popular.…”

“…It has already been reported in our previous study that these are the peaks arising from two different conformers of 2-chloro-N 0 -(2-methoxybenzoyl)benzohydrazide molecule in the solution. 18 The coupling measured for one of the conformers is marked in Fig. 3(d) and its value is 7.8 Hz.…”

“…The molecule 2-chloro-N 0 -(2-methoxybenzoyl)benzohydrazide was synthesized in our laboratory and the procedure for synthesis has already been reported. 18 Concentration of samples was approximately 15 mM in the solvent CDCl 3 , for each molecule, as well as the mixture. The reported spectra from Clean-G-SERF as well as from G-SERF were obtained by keeping all the common experimental parameters identical for both the experiments.…”
