“…The recurrence of secondary hyperparathyroidism with the need for autograftectomy is an event that occurs in 5–7.5% of cases according to the literature, but in recent studies, it was also shown to be higher than 9% with an increased risk for implantation of parathyroid tissue at the intramuscular site. According to previous studies, in the intramuscular AT, there is an increase in intraoperative time correlated with the greater difficulty for the intervention, and in the case of autograftectomy, it implies the sacrifice of an important motor component of the forearm, with consequent functional impairment and worsening of quality of life [ 10 – 15 , 23 , 29 , 37 , 40 , 41 ]. We showed a nonsignificant difference between the two groups in the recurrence of secondary hyperparathyroidism after parathyroidectomy (only in 3 patients), while Hsu and Hung [ 37 ] showed a significant difference between the two groups; this difference could be due to the low size of the sample (7.8%).…”
