Intrapulpal Thermal Changes during Setting Reaction of Glass Carbomer® Using Thermocure Lamp

Abstract: Objectives. To measure the temperature increase induced during thermocure lamp setting reaction of glass carbomer and to compare it with those induced by visible light curing of a resin-modified glass ionomer and a polyacid-modified composite resin in primary and permanent teeth. Materials and Methods. Nonretentive class I cavities were prepared in extracted primary and permanent molars. Glass carbomer (GC) was placed in the cavity and set at 60°C for 60 sn using a special thermocure lamp. Resin-modified glass… Show more

“…In this study, temperature increase in the pulp chamber of primary teeth was more than that in the pulp chamber of permanent teeth, under both light sources and using all pulp-capping materials. In agreement with our results, Kahveci et al [28] found that increase in pulp chamber temperature of primary teeth was more than that of permanent teeth. Studies have reported physical, chemical, and morphological differences in dentin structure between primary teeth and permanent teeth.…”

“…Light intensity of light curing units is an important factor in pulp chamber temperature change during dental material polymerization [28]. Several manufacturers have recently introduced light curing units with irradiance approaching 1000mW/cm 2 to reduce clinical working time and increase depth of polymerization degree.…”

“…Kahvecioglu et al . [ 32 ] measured the intrapulpal changes during the setting of GC in Class I cavity in primary and permanent teeth. Highest temperature rise was observed in GC group, but all group results were under the critical temperature pulp health.…”

“…As a result of the study, it was reported that there was no difference between the resin materials because both materials had high filler ratios (Compoglass F 77% and Aelite LS 84%). Kahvecioglu et al 25 measured the thermal changes during the setting and curing of a glass carbomer, resin modified glass ionomer, and compomer in primary teeth. No difference in temperature increase was observed between compomer and RMGIC in occlusal cavities in primary teeth.…”
