Intratumoral Lymphatic Vessel Density and Clinicopathologic Features of Patients With Early-Stage Cervical Cancer After Radical Hysterectomy

Abstract: Intratumoral LVD was greater in early cervical cancer (ie, smaller tumors, early clinical stage, and negative lymph nodes), and no relationship between LVD and lymph node metastases or survival was observed.

“…Consistent with some previous studies Schoppmann et al 2001;Gombos et al 2005) and in contrast to the study of Zaganelli et al (2010), we have not observed an intratumoral lymphatic vessel in the tumor nest of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The intratumoral lymphatic vessel is rare, small, and often closed and thus might not play a role in lymph node metastasis (Padera et al 2002).…”

“…Hence, recent studies have been focused on the relationship between peritumoral lymphatic vessels and the progression and prognosis of cancer. In previous studies, because of discrepancies in antibody selection and detection methods, the LVD level was inconsistent Schoppmann et al 2001;Gombos et al 2005;Zhang et al 2005;LongattoFilho et al 2007;Zhang et al 2009;Zaganelli et al 2010;Sotiropoulou et al 2010). In the present study, we have used the method described by Weidner et al (1991) and found that the peritumoral LVD has a mean value of 10.…”

“…descreveram que apenas a DVL peritumoral apresentou uma associação significativa com comprometimento linfonodal e sobrevidas livre de doença e geral (31) . Por outro lado, no estudo de Birner e cols (32) e do nosso grupo em estudo prévio (33) , a DVL intratumoral foi associada a um prognóstico favorável, muito similar ao que encontramos neste trabalho.…”
