Intravenous anaesthetics for short procedures

Abstract

Intravenous anaesthetic drugs are often used alone in brief procedures such as cardioversion, endoscopy, realignment of fractures, reduction of dislocated joints, electroconvulsive therapy, ‘day-case’ surgery, and dentistry. Many hospital doctors besides anaesthetists should therefore be familiar with the individual actions and unwanted effects of these drugs.
