Intrinsic optical bistability and frequency upconversion in Tm3+–Yb3+-codoped Y2WO6 phosphor

Abstract: The phase and crystal structure of Tm(3+)-Yb(3+) codoped Y2WO6 phosphor synthesized via the solid state reaction method was analysed by X-ray diffraction. The surface morphology and impurity content of the phosphor were analysed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, respectively. Upon excitation from a 980 nm diode laser, the developed phosphor shows three upconversion emission bands. Codoping with Yb(3+) ions in the Y2WO6:Tm(3+) phosphor si… Show more

“…The research in the field of REs doped phosphors has been growing due to their various technological applications such as in light emitting diodes (LEDs), display devices, optical temperature sensing, nanoheating and solar cell efficiency enhancement [1][2][3][4][5]. In recent years, frequency upconversion (UC) phenomenon has become an effective way of producing visible light by using near infrared (NIR) diode laser excitation [6][7][8].…”

“…7). It is M A N U S C R I P T well known that the decay time is inversely proportional to the radiative transition probability [3]. Therefore, the observed decrement in the decay time in case of the codoped phosphor is a clear explanation for energy transfer process form Yb 3+ →Er 3+ .…”

“…Nevertheless, the researchers are still engaged in search of important mechanism which makes the RE doped materials completely non-tunable. The non-tunable phosphors are effectively applicable in display devices, photonics, security and finger print applications [3,5,23]. Also, the non-tunable materials with invariant colour co-ordinate can be operated upto higher pump power.…”
