Intrinsic Viscosity Determination of High Molecular Weight Biopolymers by Different Plot Methods. Chia Gum Case

Abstract: The chia (Salvia hispanica) generates an abundant and viscous mucilage, this is purified with periods of heating-cooling and finally precipitated with ethanol, obtaining chia gum, CG. In this work the intrinsic viscosity is determined by different methods being Huggins taken as standard. The different methods are compared and evaluated with their respective percentage relative errors. By means of intrinsic viscosity is determined the molecular weight with a value of 3846000g/mol. This polysaccharide acquires a… Show more

“…Masuelli [43] measured the intrinsic viscosity of aqueous PVA solutions (molecular weight of 46 500 g/mol) in the temperature range of 25-60 C. The calculated values of the MHS parameters were similar to those published by Misra and Mukherjee. [44] He reported that the conformation of PVA chains in an aqueous solution was that of a random coil, and postulated that when the temperature increases, the PVA polymer chains undergo an expansion.…”

“…The effect of the molecular weight of PVA on its intrinsic viscosity was recently studied by Lămătic et al [ 41 ] They obtained the following Mark–Houwink–Sakurada (MHS) equation showing the dependency of the intrinsic viscosity on the molecular weight of PVA in aqueous solutions at 30°C (in dl/g): []η=1.380.25emnormalx0.25em1030.25emM0.56 For syndiotactic‐rich PVA samples with molecular weights in the range 3.5 × 10 4 –12.5 × 10 4 g/mol, Yamaura et al [ 42 ] reported the following equation for the intrinsic viscosity of aqueous PVA solutions and its dependence on molecular weight (in dl/g): []η=0.7340.25emnormalx0.25em103M0.63 Masuelli [ 43 ] measured the intrinsic viscosity of aqueous PVA solutions (molecular weight of 46 500 g/mol) in the temperature range of 25–60°C. “…Oseltamivir is suitable for use in diverse patient populations, which may include young children and elderly patients, various ethnic groups and those with renal or hepatic impairment (Brian and Davies, 2010). Now a day's Ultrasonic investigations is employed in a wide range of applications in medicine, biology, industry, material science, agriculture, oceanography, sonochemistry due to its non-destructive nature (Blitz, 1963; Suslick, 1988; Mason, 1990; Naik et al., 2015; Carncim et al., 1999; Kruger et al., 1999; Masuelli, 2018). Polymers are one of the most essential products which ambiances us in every gait of life HPMC is a polysaccharide prepared from cellulose (Arumugam et al., 1998).…”

“…Long polymer chains of the same degree of polymerization do not “balled-up” in the same way. 69, 72 Thus, although it seems like 100% rejection should be observed for these molecules with number-average sizes well above the dimensions of OmpF’s constriction zone, the membrane could be defective or there could be polymer chains possessing lengths, and consequently radii, significantly smaller than the average.…”
