Intrinsic [VO4]3− emission of cesium vanadate Cs5V3O10

Abstract: Polycrystalline Cs5V3O10 micro-particles were synthesized by the solid-state reaction. The vanadate shows intrinsic selfactivated luminescence of a single broad band with a peak at 520 nm, extending from about 400 nm to 720 nm. This asymmetric band is decomposed to two bands due to the electronic transitions from the 3 T1 and 3 T2 excited states to 1 A1 ground state in [VO4] 3centers. Same emission band was obtained from micro-and nano-particles. It is suggested that the broadening of the emission band arises … Show more

“…In the UV region, broad and strong bands of all the samples could be attributed to charge transfer (CT) transitions inside VO states. Then, in all the vanadates, the transitions 1 A 1 / ( 1 T 1 , 1 T 2 ) give rise to a broad and intense CT absorption band in the UV region [24]. However, as it can be seen from Fig.…”

“…According to this figure, the obtained particles sizes are mainly in the order of 5 -25 nm. This very small sizes of particle less than 1 μm indicates success and sensation of micro-particle synthesis [25]. In addition the Lorentizian fit shows that Cs and Y are distributed equally over the whole sample.…”

“…The photoluminescence emission of vanadate-based compounds has been associated with charge transfer transitions from the oxygen ligands O 2− to the central vanadium ions V 5+ in [VO 4 ] tetrahedra, as well as complex cluster vacancies and/ or modified lattices. 68,69 However, all these explanations are directly associated with VO The PL bands arise from photogenerated electron-hole pair processes and the electronic transition between the VB (2p levels of O atoms and 4d levels of Ag atoms) and the CB (3d levels of V atoms). Breaking symmetry processes in these clusters with distortions and tilts create a huge number of different structures and subsequently different material properties related to local (short), intermediate, and long-range structural order-disorder.…”
