Introducing the Ferns through Comics: Visualisation of Ethnopteridology Study of Dayak Lundayeh Tribe

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an ethnopteridology survey of the Dayak Lundayeh tribe and develop the study’s results in comics as a medium for dissemination to the public. This study used the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method to inventory the fern species used by the Dayak Lundayeh Tribe. Furthermore, the calculation of the Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) and Fidelity Level (FL) for each fern was conducted to see how popular and essential the fern is. The research results were then developed in the form of comics using the Borg & Gall model. The results of this study found 17 species of ferns which were divided into eight families, the most prominent family being Polypodiaceae. Based on the calculation of the RFC of each fern, it got a range of 0.69-0.98. Meanwhile, the FL calculation received a range of 65.48% - 100%. The results of comic development based on the average assessment of content expert, media expert, and community responses, respectively, get the following percentages of 85%, 88%, and 97%.
