ResumenLa mercantilización de los cuidados familiares a través del servicio doméstico y la incorporación de prestaciones económicas desde la entrada en vigor de la «Ley de Promoción de la Autonomía Personal y Atención a las Personas en Situación de Dependencia» (LAPAD) han sido los cambios más relevantes que en la última década ha experimentado la provisión del cuidado doméstico dirigido a las personas mayores. Dada la diferenciación interna existente en España en cuanto a la extensión de los servicios sociales, los subsidios dirigidos a la asistencia y la privatización, el artículo se centra en indagar sobre la emergencia de variados modelos de organización social de los cuidados entre las Comunidades Autónomas y determinar el carácter regional de los mismos. Mediante la aplicación de un análisis de correspondencias se presenta una clasifi cación de la distribución territorial de los cuidados familiares, públicos y privados en cada una de las regiones. Key words AbstractThe commercialization of in-home care services and the incorporation of economic assistance following the implementation of the "Law on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care of Dependent People" (LAPAD) are the most signifi cant changes occurring in the social organization of senior care over the past decade. Given the internal diversity of the Spanish social services system--subsidies offered for care and privatization, this study explores the various social organization models of family care in the Autonomous Communities, examining regional differences. Research on early childhood education and care (ECEC) policy focuses overwhelmingly on formal, centre‐based provision and, to a lesser extent, on family day care (or childminding) provided in the homes of registered carers. Comparatively little research addresses the policy treatment of care provided in the child's home by nannies and au pairs. This article examines the position of in‐home childcare in Australia, the UK and Canada, and the varied nature and extent of public funding and regulation. Introducing a new dimension into comparative studies of ECEC, it also explores how shifts in migration policy in each country have intersected with ECEC funding and regulation to reshape the recruitment and employment of in‐home child carers. Australia, the UK and Canada are all liberal, market‐oriented countries, but there is considerable diversity in the way governments support and regulate in‐home childcare, their rationales for so doing, and in the connections between childcare and migration. We argue that connecting the analysis of in‐home childcare to migration policies raises new questions about the classification and comparison of ECEC policies.

In this article we examine the processes driving the outsourcing of masculinized forms of domestic work, involving household and garden maintenance and repair, and its displacement to migrant men; a trend which we conceive as part of the broader transnationalization of care that has been highlighted in feminist scholarship. The article draws on two studies conducted in the United Kingdom and Germany, and focuses on the demand on the part of households buying in "male" domestic services. We find that households use handymen in order to alleviate a father time-bind, which is rooted in three processes. Firstly, a "Europeanization" in norms around childhood, parenting and fathering; secondly, a liberalization and flexibilization of working time regimes in both countries; and thirdly, path dependency in welfare regimes based historically on a male breadwinner model. On the basis of our findings in the United Kingdom and Germany, we conclude the paper by reflecting on whether and why we might expect the commoditization of male domestic services to be manifest in other European countries.
