Abstract. Haryono, Wahyudewantoro G. 2020. The alien freshwater fish of Mount Galunggung, West Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 1401-1408. Mt. Galunggung, located in West Java, Indonesia, is an active volcano renowned for its deadly eruption in 1982. This area has many waters bodies, but the fish communities have not been recorded, especially the alien or introduced fish species. Hence, the objective of the present study was to determine the alien fish diversity, abundance, local distribution and utilization in Galunggung vicinity. The study was done in March 2013 using survey method covering 10 stations. Fish sampling was based on catch per unit of effort (CPUE) using mainly electrofishing, gillnet and cast net. A total of 24 species were recorded during the survey, in which 13 were listed as introduced species. Poecilia reticulata was the dominant species with 7.4 ind./St and followed by Xiphophorus helleri with 5.3 ind./St. Both species were also widely distributed on the sites with 70% local distribution. The alien species in this area are mostly used for ornamental fish.

The Murrels (Channa striatus) is an indigenous, predatory freshwater fish. It is also known as lay man fish food with pharmacological benefits in treating wound and pain and in boosting energy of the sick. Amino acids include glycine, lysine and arginine and fatty acids are namely arachidonic acid, palmitic acid and docosahexaenoic acid are used for the preparation of several types of bioactive molecules commercially. Antinociceptive activity or toxic inhibitor, anti-depressant and neuroregenerative agent and it has wide-ranging medical uses. Henceforth the present study aimed to conduct the general survey by collecting various fresh water wild Channa striatus in Guntur district to investigate to identification of pathogenicity of trematodes and its affect on Channa striatus morphological, physiological and anatomical changes leads to the loss of nutritional, medicinal properties. Furthermore creating awareness to the target area where collected the samples about the pathogenicity impact on human health and their influences. Our results demonstrate that intestinal flukes are common in farmed fish in this area, suggesting that reservoir hosts such as dogs, cats, and pigs are more important in sustaining the life cycles of these fluke in fish farms than human hosts. This has implications for the effectiveness of control programs focused mainly on treatment of humans.

Among the myxozoan parasites, the genus Myxobolus is considered as the emerging parasite in freshwater aquaculture. In the present study, a disease outbreak associated with mass mortality was investigated in a carp farm located at North and Middle Andaman district of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The affected rohu fry exhibited the clinical signs such as lethargic movement, dark body colouration, loss of appetite, excess mucus secretion, 1-2 mm multifocal white nodules on the body surface and skeletal deformities including spinal curvatures. Molecular characterization using 18S rRNA along with clinical signs identified the causative agent as muscle infecting Myxobolus sp. (GenBank accession number MK128509) which showed 95.45% identity with Myxobolus musculi and 95.23% identity with Myxobolus pseudodispar. Genetic distance and phylogenetic tree analysis were performed to elucidate the relationship between the Myxobolus sp. obtained in the present study and the members of other congeners. This investigation serves as the first report of Myxobolus sp. outbreak from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and also reiterates the need for implementation of strict biosecurity measures to preserve the freshwater aquatic fauna of these Islands.
