Show more

“…The White Bear Suppression Inventory (WBSI) (Wegner & Zanakos, 1994; Portuguese version by Jiménez-Ros, Orgambídez-Ramos, & Pascual, 2015) is a 15-item self-report instrument to measure people’s general tendency to suppress unwanted thoughts. Items are rated on a 5-point scale from 1 ( strongly disagree ) to 5 ( strongly agree ).…”

“…It contains statements such as "There are things I prefer not to think about" or "I always try to put problems out of mind." The WBSI has demonstrated high internal consistency in Spanish (and Portuguese) samples (Ros et al, 2015). This inventory is an indicator of the frequency individuals have intrusive and ruminative thoughts and has been found to correlate positively with depressive symptoms, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive behavior (Wegner and Zanakos, 1994).…”

“…While this is common practice in social and personality psychology, it has also been criticised in terms of the representativeness of such samples (Visser et al, 2000). Second, it should be noted that, in line with previous findings (Jiménez Ros et al, 2015;Luciano et al, 2006), none of the hypothesised WBSI models had good fit, so that modifications had to be made upon one of these models (i.e. the analysis was not strictly confirmatory).…”

“…One possible exception is the study conducted by Blumberg (2000), who identified three instead of two factors: UIT, TS, and self-distraction. Furthermore, some authors even defend the original unidimensional model (Altın & Gençöz, 2009;Jiménez Ros et al, 2015;Muris et al, 1996;Palm & Strong, 2007;Vincken et al, 2012). All in all, there does not seem to be a clear, definite structure of the WBSI, and none of the proposed models shows good fit (Jiménez Ros et al, 2015;Luciano et al, 2006).…”
