Abstract:Three bipyridinium phenolates were synthesized, and their spectral behavior was recorded at various solvent polarities and compared to a classic pyridinium phenolate dye possessing only one pyridinium acceptor ring in its structure. The addition of a second pyridinium unit to the classic solvatochromic core results in an unexpected change in the spectral behavior from negative solvatochromism (displacement of the absorption band to shorter wavelengths) to inverted solvatochromism, characterized by the transiti… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
