Abstract: Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), once thought to be fully reversed after pregnancy, is now a firmly established independent risk factor for the subsequent development of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions.
