“…In particular, it was higher than 60%, a threshold that is considered uncomfortable for many people. Moreover, it is accepted that PMs descend when the wind velocity increases [ 14 , 40 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ]. Minimum PM values occur when the wind velocity reaches 1.0–2.0 m/s [ 14 ].…”

“…Compared with other seasons, PM 2.5 pollution was the most severe in winter. Toxic and hazardous substances such as organic matter, heavy metal (i.e., Cr, Cu, Zn, As, and Pb), and water-soluble ions (i.e., SO 4 2− and NO 3 − ) adsorbed on PM 2.5 exerted adverse effects on bacteria [41]. Moreover, low temperature in winter (Xi'an: −3-4 • C; Linfen: −1-2 • C) was not conducive to the activity of enzymes and metabolism of substances in cell membrane fluidity [42], thus inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria.…”

“…On the basis of the results from the EOF analysis, we selected cities with high pollution levels as the starting point and used the length of time of severe pollution as the pushback time. The air mass movement path at 500 m of altitude (the wind field at 500 m of altitude) can reflect the characteristics of the average flow field in the boundary layer [16,17,19]. Therefore, the height of the simulation was selected as 500 m, and we calculated the 48 h backward trajectory every 2 h.…”

“…Backward trajectory analysis is an important method for analyzing the sources of air pollution. Scholars have studied the regional transportation characteristics of atmospheric particles by analyzing their air mass trajectories [16][17][18][19]. Existing research has focused on descriptions of long-term pollution sources in a single region, which cannot distinguish between the air mass trajectory during a heavily polluted period and the air mass trajectory during a slightly polluted period.…”
