Abstract: This paper investigates the theoretical capability of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) systems to accurately measure changes in the oxidation state of cerebral cytochrome-c-oxidase (CCO) alongside the hemoglobins, for a deeper understanding of NIRS limitations.
