“…An essential component of normality and autonomy is the ability for self‐care, which helps even very sick patients to maintain at least some independence, personal privacy, and self‐control (i.e., the ability of self‐management) 19,20 . Data demonstrate that self‐care training in patients with cancer can increase quality of life 21 ; self‐care and the ability to mentally cope with the cancer disease are strongly related 22 . To some extent, self‐care can be learned and trained with the help of clinicians, friends, partners, relatives, and/or by personal experience.…”

“…Over a ten-week period, dependability is measured at 80% and Cronbach's alpha ranges from 74% to 84%. The reliability and accuracy of the questionnaire as a means of assessing life expectancy have been validated by numerous researchers [22]. The test's internal consistency ranges from 0.74 to 0.84, and its test-retest validity is 0.80.…”

“…13 Taking into consideration that cancer patients face a wide range of needs that affect their lives, 14 no meta-analysis or systematic review on the effect of self-care training on the quality of life of patients with esophageal and gastric cancers was found. However, the clinical trials have demonstrated that self-care education improves patients' quality of life following radiotherapy, 14 minimizes postdischarge hospitalizations and referrals to outpatient clinics, 15 and reduces physical symptoms such as pain and constipation after esophagectomy. 16 Some clinical trials, on the other hand, revealed that telephone supportive care follow-up from nurse practitioners after esophagectomy, 17 as well as an education session on the day of discharge and a follow-up call from a researcher, 16 had no significant effect on the cognitive and emotional domains of quality of life.…”
