Investigation into stress wave propagation in metal foams

Abstract: Abstract. The aim of this study is to investigate stress wave propagation in metal foams under high-speed impact loading. Threedimensional Voronoi model is established to represent real closed-cell foam. Based on the one-dimensional stress wave theory and Voronoi model, a numerical model is developed to calculate the velocity of elastic wave and shock wave in metal foam.
