“…Figure 3(c) demonstrates that the XPS spectrum of La, the energy spectrum of La3d consists of the characteristic peaks and accompanying peaks (high energy side) of La3 d 3/2 and La3 d 5/2 . 28 , 40 Influenced by the coordination bond, the bonding energy of La3 d 3/2 and La3 d 5/2 shifted from 852.33 eV and 835.45 eV (La3d in LaCl 3 ) to 851.08 eV and 834.18 eV (La3d on RE-ACNTs), respectively, which decreased by 1.25 eV and 1.27 eV. This is because, after the formation of the coordinate bond, the constraint of the La3d orbital to electrons is reduced by the influence of the heteroatom, which causes the electrons to be more easily excited, so that the binding energy spectrum migrates to the low energy direction, which is similar to the principle that La3d’s binding energy spectrum shifts to a low energy direction when La forms a chemical bond with Cl or O atoms, 28 , 41 indicating that La is successfully adsorbed on the surface of ACNTs and forms coordination compounds such as RE-O and RE-N.…”

“…Combined with our previous research findings, RE can functionalize CF and CNTs and form coordination bonds to become an intermediate between the silicon substrate and CNTs. 2628 This article provides a new and simple method for modifying acidified carbon nanotubes (ACNTs) by using rare earth element La. TEM, FTIR and XPS are used to analyze the physical and chemical status of ACNTs treated with different RE concentrations (RE-CNTs).…”

“…180 In recent years, CNTs have been widely used in polymer, metal and ceramics to improve their tribological properties. 181,182 Polymers are widely used for friction couples against metals and other materials. When CNTs are added into polymer, on the one hand, there is considerable increase in hardness and toughness, resulting in the decrease of the wear rate.…”

“…Employing lubricants with additional friction modifiers produces encouraging results. An extensive overview of literature proclaims that several types of nanomaterials such as nanoparticles, nanosheets, or nanocomposites have been used for the purpose owing to their fast tribo-action. Nowadays, carbon-based materials such as graphene, fullerene, and carbon nanotubes are the center of attention in this innovative research area. From our laboratory, too, carbon microspheres, , reduced graphene oxide, and their composites with nanoparticles, doped nanoparticles, or nanosheets have been recently documented as tribologically active materials. A carbon nitride polymer of high thermal stability possessing graphitic structure g-C 3 N 4 with weak van der Waals forces amid the 2D-nanosheets appears to be very influential in the field. Still, it has been seldom studied. , Zhu et al have described the antiwear performance of bulk g-C 3 N 4 with polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) .…”
