Investigation of forming limit diagram and mechanical properties of the bimetallic Al/Cu composite sheet at different temperatures which fabricated by explosive welding

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the mechanical properties, fractography and formability of Al/Cu two-layer composite sheets at three temperatures (23 °C, 120 °C and 220 °C). The bimetal sheet was fabricated by the explosive welding method. The anisotropy of the Al/Cu bimetallic composite sheet was investigated. The result showed significant anisotropy in the Al/Cu composite sheet due to the explosive welding process. The Vickers hardness measurements demonstrated that the hardness in both aluminum and copper… Show more

“…Gheysarian et al [8] experimentally studied the influence of SPIF parameters on the two-layer Al/Cu sheet produced by the explosive welding process. Alaie et al [9] studied the influence of temperature on FLD for This research used AA 1050 and Cu 10,100 with 1 mm thickness to produce bimetal samples. Samples with dimensions of 130 × 70 were prepared for the explosive welding process.…”

“…Therefore, the forming limit diagram of the Al/Cu two-layer sheet is higher when the Al layer is an inner layer. In 2021, Alaie et al 12 investigated the forming limit diagram and mechanical properties of the bimetallic Al/Cu composite sheet at different temperatures. The result showed significant anisotropy in the Al/Cu composite sheet due to the explosive welding process.…”

“…11 The mechanism of explosive welding is similar to that of MPW, but its energy comes from explosives, so the welding process has poor controllability. 12 On the contrary, MPW can avoid these shortcomings, and there are fewer intermetallic brittle compounds in the welding interface.…”
