“…Early experimental studies suggested that a thermodynamic database for the development of Pt-alloys for high-temperature applications should be based on Pt-Al-Cr-Ru [7,13]. Experimental studies of the four ternary systems have been undertaken by [14][15][16][17] (Al-Cr-Ru), [18][19][20] (Pt-Cr-Ru), [21,22] (Pt-Al-Ru), and [23][24][25] (Pt-Al-Cr). Studies of as-cast alloys were performed in order to determine the solidification reactions and liquidus surface projections.…”

“…The high hardness of some of the Pt-Al-Cr alloys was attributed to ~PtAl 2 , ~PtAl, and ~Pt 2 Al 3 . The Pt-Cr-Ru system (Süss, 2004) exhibited hardnesses between 225±13 for (Pt) and 1013±68 for an alloy with A15 Cr 3 Pt. The latter sample showed cracking around the indentations, which is detrimental -however, this was not seen in the current alloys.…”

“…The information required to undertake the computer assessments was either gleaned from literature, or when not available, undertaken within the project. Experimental studies of the four ternary systems have been undertaken on Al-Cr-Ru [5][6][7][8], Pt-Cr-Ru [9][10][11] and Pt-Al-Ru [12,13]. This paper summarises results obtained from experimental work on as-cast Pt-Al-Cr alloys.…”
