Biogas can serve as a substitute for natural fuel, but its use is associated with a number of features associated with the difference in its composition from natural gas. Landfill gas generated in the body of MSW landfills is characterized by a significant change in composition. The purpose of the work was a theoretical study of the effect of changing the composition of biogas and the coefficient of excess air on the parameters of the combustion process - gas and air consumption, combustion temperature and on the volume of combustion products. The influence of the ratio of CO2 and N2 contained in biogas on the main combustion characteristics was also evaluated. It is concluded that the combustion of biogas of variable composition, subject to ensuring the specified heat output of the furnace or boiler, does not require a change in air flow, but only a change in the flow of biogas depending on the content of methane in it. Reducing the content of methane leads to an increase in the volume of exhaust gases and a decrease in their temperature. Therefore, a decrease in the methane content in biogas can lead to a decrease in the intensity of heat exchange and a decrease in the efficiency of the unit. The ratio of CO2 and N2 practically does not affect the thermal parameters of combustion. The results of the study are necessary when designing equipment and determining the operating mode of equipment that burns biogas that is formed in natural conditions, for example, landfill gas generated at HSW landfill.

The purpose of the work is to summarize data on the analysis of the composition of biogas produced at the Streletskoye MSW landfill (Belgorod region) from 2017 to the present in order to assess its average composition and its changes. The composition and yield of biogas was studied in an experimental line of three wells and in four gas collection systems with a total area of 1.75 hectares, built at the site in 2017–2020. According to the results of aeration, the methane content without taking into account leaks ranges from 35 to 70% and is constant for each gas collection field. The practice of operating gas collection systems shows the great importance of sealing the body of landfills to prevent atmospheric air suction. Monitoring of the natural release of landfill gas from the landfill body in 471 wells showed an uneven nature of gas formation at different points, so the installation of individual observation and working gas wells may not allow determining the average indicators for the landfill. Studies of the composition and yield of biogas over a long period of time have shown the stability of the indicators and their dependence only on the technical characteristics of the landfill site. Seasonality has little effect on methane output, so surveys for climatic conditions similar to the Belgorod region can be carried out at any time of the year. The conducted studies showed that GOST 59417-2021 does not allow for an effective determination of biogas potential. To solve this problem, an express survey method is proposed with the installation of temporary wells and determination of biogas parameters using portable equipment.

Sejalan dengan kebutuhan akan energi gas bumi, penurunan produksi dan cadangan gas bumi dalam negeri maka diprediksi neraca gas bumi Indonesia akan segera terjadi. Untuk mengurangi impor dan memperlambat habisnya cadangan gas bumi maka perlu dikembangkan energi alternatif yang terbarukan untuk dipakai atau menjadi energi pengganti dari Gas Bumi. Gas bumi digunakan dalam fase gas dan biasanya digunakan sebagai energi penggerak turbin gas atau mesin gas, untuk itu alternatif pengganti gas bumi harus memungkinkan untuk diterapkan pada atau mesin dengan tenaga gas bumi. Energi terbarukan yang mendukung untuk mengganti peran gas bumi antara lain LFG (Landfill Gas), Biogas dan Hidrogen. Indonesia dapat memproduksi LFG dalam jumlah besar jika dapat melakukan upgrade TPA yang ada lebih dari 500 lokasi tersebar di seluruh Indonesia. Biogas Indonesia dapat diproduksi dari bahan baku limbah POME dan limbah ternak yang melimpah. Sedangkan hidrogen adalah sumber alternatif masa depan yang sangat bersih, dimana perkembangan teknologi proses produksi dan pengguna produk hidrogen cukup cepat. Hidrogen dapat dihasilkan dari berbagai proses terbarukan dimana akan menjadi potensi yang sangat bermanfaat bagi dunia, dan khususnya Indonesia di masa mendatang. Pemerintah Indonesia perlu melakukan langkah nyata untuk menerapkan bahan bakar alternatif pengganti gas bumi melalui penyediaan fasilitas dan pelaksanaan kebijakan.
