Investigation of Nonlinear Optical Modulation Characteristics of MXene VCrC for Pulsed Lasers

Abstract: We report the surface morphology and the nonlinear absorption characteristics of MXene VCrC nanosheets prepared by the liquid-phase exfoliation method. The self-made MXene VCrC was applied as a saturable absorber in the Tm:YAP laser experiments, performing excellent Q-switching optical modulation characteristics in infrared range. With this absorber, a stable passively Q-switched 2 μm laser was achieved. Under an incident pump power of 3.52 W, a maximum output power of 280 mW was obtained with a T = 3% output … Show more

“…The summary of the as-reported MXene with various compositions is shown in Figure 2. [11,[34][35][36][37][38][39][40] To date, the most widely used MXene in biomedicine are Ti 3 C 2 , Ti 2 C, Ta 4 C 3 , Mo 2 C, and Nb 2 C groups. For example, Ti 3 C 2 , and Ti 2 C-based biomaterials have been used in the field of tissue regeneration, [41,42] and Ta 4 C 3 , Mo 2 C, and Nb 2 C have been explored in the field of cancer therapy.…”

“…The passive Q-switching technique is one of the most effective methods to generate pulsed lasers [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ]. By applying the Q-switched mechanism, short pulses can be achieved with durations of microseconds (μs) or nanoseconds (ns) and a low repetition rate of kilohertz (kHz) [ 10 , 11 ]. In this technique, the saturable absorbers (SAs) are essential components of fiber laser systems for modulating intracavity loss and generating short pulses [ 12 ].…”

“…Even more research interest has been generated by the use of two-dimensional (2D) materials as SAs. To date, several 2D materials exhibiting excellent photoelectric performance have been revealed in PQS lasers operating in the 2-μm wavelength range, including graphene, 9 black phosphorus (BP), 10 transitional metal dichalcogenides, [11][12][13][14] topological insulators, [15][16][17] semiconductor materials, 18 MXenes, 19 and heterostructures. 20 Some oxides also have very good photoelectric properties, such as chromium oxide.…”
