Investigation of Polymer/OMMT Nanocomposites-Influence Factor and Mechanism of Substructure Morphology

Abstract: By mechanical blending method or melt extrusion method, several kinds of poymers and OMMT were selected with different mixing progress and conditions, and several polymer/OMMT nanocomposites with different substructure morphology were prepared. The properties of polymer/OMMT nanocomposites were investigated. Firstly, several types of OMMT were prepared with different layer spacing, the results of XRD and TEM showed that the OMMT with larger layer spacing would form exfoliation nanocomposites, and then … Show more

“…It consists of stacked, layered silicate about 1 nm thickness and some hydrophilic cations, such as Na + or K + ions, exist between the layers, which can be replaced with other cations by the ion exchange reaction (Zhou et al , 2014; Lin et al , 2007; Kong et al , 2017). Because of the strong hydrophilicity and interlayer electrostatic force, MMT should be organically modified with an organic intercalator and being used as a reinforcement (OMMT) for resin materials, so that it can be better dispersed in the resin matrix and obtain a strong two-phase interface effect between the matrix and OMMT (Zhao et al , 2020). Good interfacial behavior is essential to obtain resin matrix composites with better mechanical properties (Wang et al , 2013; Lee and Char, 2002).…”
