Investigation of scours on a physical model of the Hričov weir using photogrammetry

Abstract: Scours creation in riverbed at the Hričov weir is a permanent problem since its construction. It is caused by the shortened stilling basin of the weir. In almost all cases of flow control at the weir the energy is not dissipated sufficiently. A 3D physical model was built in the hydraulic laboratory to investigate the measures for reduction of the scour creation. To simulate uneven loads on the downstream riverbed, a flood discharge controlled by the weir in symmetric and asymmetric operations was used for sim… Show more

“…For contactless measurements, the scours must be assessed using short-range photogrammetry where the scours will be measured to see how practical the examined approaches are at reducing scour. A short-range photogrammetric approach was employed to capture scours in the downstream watercourse bed and banks, allowing the whole monitored region of the riverbed to be recorded [9]. This approach proved a rapid, dependable, and exact method for researching watercourse scouring on physical models.…”

“…As a result, detailed knowledge of the scour procedure and a more accurate calculation of the scour cavity geometry dimensions are critical in civil engineering. The physical study, numerical simulations, and analytical solutions have all been presented as methods and methodologies for studying local scour near bridge piers [2][3][4][5]. Nevertheless, many approaches have flaws that limit their accuracy in real-world applications.…”
