Variable renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, play a crucial role in sustainable energy systems. However, their intermittent nature poses challenges for maintaining a consistent energy supply. This chapter outlines a research initiative that focuses on the integration of phase change materials (PCMs) within heat exchangers to address these challenges. PCMs, known for their thermal energy storage capabilities, can enhance the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy systems by providing a means to store excess energy during peak generation periods. The chapter aims to explore the synergies between PCMs and heat exchangers, with the goal of optimizing the utilization of variable renewable energy.
