As a response to underground coal mining in large basins, surface subsidence occurs and causes damages to structures and the environment above mining activities thus presenting a serious problem that cannot be avoided but its effects can be reduced. For that purpose, reliable methods that provide a precise prognosis of subsidence and deformations are required. In this study, a new approach, based on the Patarić-Stojanović stochastic method for predicting the mine-induced subsidence and deformations of the Highway E75 Belgrade-Niš (Serbia) in the Southern district of the Morava pit - Aleksinac is given. Also, the sustainability of that highway section affected by the mining operations is assessed. Based on the results of the performed geodetic measurements it can be concluded thar the developed model incorporated into the MITSOUKO software package and supported by spatial analyses in the Geographic Information System (GIS) offers remarkable and efficient simulation of the mine-induced subsidence and deformation processes.
