Investigation of the influence of the scanning speed and step in laser marking and engraving of aluminum

Abstract: Marking and engraving of aluminum was carried out by a CuBr (copper bromide) laser operating at the wavelength of 511 nm with a pulse duration of 30 ns. The reflection was investigated of the laser-ablated aluminum surface depending on the laser beam scanning speed and the distance between the laser lines. The changes of the aluminum surface were observed before and after laser processing by an optical microscope and visually. The laser marking quality was estimated by measuring the reflection of the irradiate… Show more

“…In another study, higher corrosion resistance after selective laser melting of austenitic steel was associated with rapid cooling that produced a homogenous distribution of alloying elements thus avoiding the formation of Cr-depleted regions [2]. It has been reported that laser processing parameters such as laser power, pulse width, the distance between raster lines, and scanning speed, are the most important factors affecting the properties of the treated materials [3]. Among the parameters related to the technological process of marking a complex relationship exists.…”

“…Currently, lasers are increasingly used, especially in industry and in various industries, and laser marking on thermoplastics is especially in demand [1], [2], [3]. One of the most common thermoplastics is polyamide, which has many advantages over other polymers: good hardness, chemical resistance, corrosion and wear resistance [4].…”
