Investigation of the localized magnetic moments on Fe and Mn in Disordered Fe-Mn-Al Alloys by Magnetic Diffuse Neutron Scattering

Abstract: Localized magnetic moments of Fe and Mn are determined by magnetic diffuse neutron scattering and magnetization measurements. The observed decrease in μFe and μMn with increasing Mn content is discussed on the basis of the modified Zener model.

“…The antiferromagnetic Fe-Mn coupling has been also experimentally obtained in [21], so our results agree well with the conclusion of the paper [21]. Considering the fact that our calculations are strictly valid of absolute zero, it can be noted that the values of the local magnetic moments obtained from ab-initio calculations are in a reasonable agreement with values obtained experimentally in [21,22] for T=80 K. Some discrepancies between the theoretical values of local magnetic moments and experimental ones from [21,22] may be attributed to the three following points. The temperature effect should decrease the value of moments.…”

“…Our paper thus confirms presence of the antiferromagnetic Fe-Mn coupling reported in [21]. We note, however, that our values of magnetic moments are generally higher than experimentally observed [22], while the values of hyperfine fields are in reasonable agreement with results of Mössbauer spectroscopy of Fe 3 Al alloy doped with Mn presented in [5].…”
